This hasn’t happened to me in a while, but on my recent United flight from Newark to San Francisco, I found someone sitting in my assigned aisle seat.
When I asked what seat they were supposed to be in, they reluctantly moved to their assigned middle seat.
It was not a major issue, but I do not understand what the passenger was trying to do. I am wondering if they expected me to just accept the middle seat instead.
I also think a less assertive passenger might have felt pressured to simply take the worse seat rather than correct the situation.
Overall it was resolved quickly, and the rest of the flight was uneventful.
