I upgraded from economy to business class on my CDG to LAX flight at the 30-hour check-in mark and paid about $742 per person for my wife and me through the Air France app, which felt like a great deal.
Our original tickets were booked using Flying Blue miles plus some additional cash, and I was informed by an Air France representative that bookings made with miles are not eligible for earlier upgrade offers before check-in opens. I had hoped to upgrade earlier on the LAX–CDG segment, but no business class seats were available at the time.
For anyone using miles, it seems upgrades may only become available once check-in opens.
The business class experience itself was excellent. The seats were fully lie-flat with sliding doors and included amenities like headphones, water, slippers, blanket, pillow, and a seat cover. There was also a small storage cubby beside the seat.
Dinner onboard was outstanding, especially the salmon, and all three meals were very good. Even the fresh baguette stood out. The wine and champagne selection also looked strong, though I didn’t try them.
The aircraft was a 777-300ER equipped with La Première, although I didn’t get to see that cabin.
Overall, I would strongly recommend upgrading on this route if possible. I personally enjoyed it even more than Qatar Airways business class.
