I’m honestly still trying to wrap my head around this.
I paid $7,744 for a roundtrip ticket. Due to everything going sideways on the way home, I had to cancel my return flight. When I contacted Qatar Airways about the refund, they told me I’d only get about $2,000 back for the unused return portion.
That makes zero sense to me. Are they basically saying the outbound flight was worth $5,000 and the return was only $2,000?
The whole trip home was already a nightmare. My original route was supposed to be:
Maldives → Doha → JFK
Instead I had to piece together a crazy route just to get home:
Maldives → Sri Lanka → Singapore → Taiwan → JFK
Ended up spending another $10k just to get back. The Qatar desk at the airport had a massive line and people were just being told to check the online portal.
Now hearing the refund is only $2k just feels like another slap in the face.
Is this normal with airline pricing or does this sound wrong?
