Paid €1100 for upgrade but didn’t get it, what to do?

Hey everyone,

Had a pretty frustrating experience with Lufthansa and wanted to see what others would do.

Flight was Frankfurt → Singapore on March 31 (LH0780 / SQ2007). Booked through Singapore Airlines but operated by Lufthansa.

At the airport, I asked about upgrading to Business. The agent said there were 2 seats left, so I paid €1100.

Right after payment, their system had an issue and they couldn’t process the upgrade. I was told the payment would be cancelled, and I ended up flying Economy.

The problem is the €1100 has still been charged.

I emailed them and got a generic response saying my case is being processed and not to follow up—no timeline provided.

What’s frustrating:

I only paid because they confirmed availability

The issue was on their side

I was told I wouldn’t be charged

For those who’ve dealt with similar situations:

Would you wait or escalate now?

Is it worth pushing for compensation, or just focus on the refund?

Would appreciate any advice.
