Applied for visas to Vietnam for a family trip from Feb 7 to March 8. The husband and toddler received visas with the correct dates, but the exit date on one visa was entered incorrectly, making it valid only from Feb 7 to Feb 8.
The mistake wasn’t noticed until March 3 when a hotel checked the passport and visa and pointed out that the stay had already exceeded the visa by almost 30 days.
After visiting the immigration office in Da Nang, passport copies were taken and the instruction was to return with a translator. Later, with a translator present, immigration explained that because the overstay was significant, it wouldn’t be possible to leave immediately.
A report was written and the process to issue a new visa started, which may take about 7 to 14 days. A fine will also have to be paid. The rest of the family will leave the country briefly and return to reset their visa.
