Getting bumped from Premium Economy to Economy a week out and then being told “submit a form after the flight” with zero info on the refund is classic Air India frustration. They absolutely know the fare difference already. Making people upload boarding passes later just feels like stalling.
I’ve seen mixed outcomes from others. Some eventually got a refund, but it took months and a lot of follow ups. Amounts also seem all over the place. A few people said it was a reasonable fare difference, others said it felt like a token credit that didn’t match what Premium Economy actually cost.
The worst part is the timing. Last minute cancellation isn’t really an option when other fares are through the roof, so you’re basically forced to accept the downgrade and hope they do the right thing later.
Would definitely keep every email, screenshot the downgrade notice, and follow up aggressively once the flight is done.
