Just got back from a Norwegian Cruise Line trip on the NCL Bliss out of Los Angeles to Mexico, and the last part of the cruise was pretty unpleasant.
After leaving Cabo and heading back toward LA, the ship apparently switched to a different fuel. Soon after, oily residue started blowing over the back of the ship, covering parts of the deck.
The adult-only aft deck became unusable because of the smell and the oily coating. Even activities on the upper deck like the racetrack and mini golf were affected because everything felt sticky and dirty.
Crew members mentioned that once the ship reaches certain waters they’re allowed to use that type of fuel, but it ended up making a big part of the ship unpleasant to use on the way back.
