NYC hotel prices are wild and the short-term rental ban isn’t helping

Just booked a weekend in Manhattan and had to seriously double-check the total. $500 a night for a room that’s fine? Nothing special. It’s getting absurd. And now I’m reading how NYC basically outlawed short-term rentals unless the owner stays there too. No wonder prices are sky-high.

I get the intent, but this just kills flexibility especially for families or people trying to stay longer than a night or two. And locals lose out too. That hypothetical widow in Brooklyn wanting to rent her place while she visits family? Not allowed.

Feels like tourists, middle-class folks, and regular NYC homeowners all lose here who actually benefits?
