I’ve been cruising since the 90s and somehow never noticed this until my sailing on Celebrity Beyond in December.
About halfway through the week I started realizing there was always a friendly security guard saying hello to me every time I walked down my hallway. He was posted in a little alcove outside an interior cabin. At first I thought nothing of it.
Then I noticed it was constant. Different guards rotating every few hours, always in the same spot, always posted there for the rest of the cruise.
Here’s the weird part. I stayed on the ship for the next itinerary starting that Sunday. Same hallway, same cabin type. And suddenly… no guard. Not once for the entire next cruise.
That’s when it clicked. Someone was clearly confined to their cabin on the first sailing and security was quietly stationed there the whole time. No drama, no announcements, just very subtle supervision.
Kind of fascinating how discreet they are about it. I’ve cruised for decades and never picked up on it until now.
