This Outside story on Northern Lights Peak Season really caught my attention because it matches what I've been seeing during my recent trips up north. Having chased auroras across Iceland and Norway over the past few years, I can confirm we're entering an incredible viewing period. The solar activity is ramping up to levels we haven't seen in decades, and some of my favorite spots like Tromsø and Reykjavik are already seeing spectacular displays.
The best views I've gotten were actually from small towns rather than popular tourist spots - places like Inari in Finland and Abisko in Sweden offer incredible visibility without the crowds. If you're planning to catch this peak season, I'd recommend booking accommodations with northern views and staying at least 3-4 nights to increase your chances.
