I’ve stayed in plenty of budget motels over the years while traveling, and some of them really toe the line between cheap and sketchy. So it’s good to see local authorities in North Charleston actually doing something about crime around these properties. Feels like this kind of targeted sweep should be more common- hotels can’t just ignore what’s happening under their own roofs.
That said, I hope it doesn’t just stop at a few arrests and a photo op. The homelessness angle they mentioned is real, and it’s messy, and enforcement alone isn’t going to fix it. Still, good first step.
