Alaska is weird in a good way sometimes. On partner awards, especially with STarlux, there have been reports of mileage credit sneaking through even when it shouldn’t. The system isn’t always perfect at zeroing things out.
The companion cert itself isn’t supposed to earn miles on an award, but if the ticket was issued or reissued in a way that looked like a revenue fare to the partner, you can end up with a few thousand miles posting. Sounds like that’s what happened here.
I wouldn’t expect it every time and I definitely wouldn’t poke Alaska about it. If the miles are already in your account, they usually stick.
