Newark Airport Hit by Another Ground Stop After Radio Outages

Newark Liberty had yet another rough day after incoming flights were halted for an hour because air traffic controllers lost radio communication. Delays stretched over two hours, and the FAA has now cut the airport’s incoming flight capacity to just 28 per hour through at least Friday. This isn’t an isolated issue either controllers at the Philadelphia center, which manages Newark’s airspace, had a similar outage the night before.

It feels like Newark has been plagued with technical problems lately, from radar screens going dark to multiple communication breakdowns in just the past few months. As someone who connects through Newark often, this makes me wonder how much trust travelers can place in the airport’s infrastructure. Has anyone here been caught up in these recent delays? Do you think the FAA needs a bigger overhaul of its systems to prevent this from becoming the norm?
