A new direct flight route will connect Adelaide in South Australia with Shanghai, set to launch in mid-2026. Operated by China Eastern Airlines using wide-body aircraft, the service will run three times per week and covers approximately a 10-hour journey. The route marks the first non-stop air link between the two cities and is expected to significantly boost trade, tourism, and student travel—teed up to carry both passengers and up to 15 tonnes of cargo per flight. State officials say it aligns with efforts to deepen South Australia’s international connectivity and strengthen ties with China, the region’s largest trading partner.
