Boarded the Empire Builder out of Chicago and they’re testing a new boarding process. You still line up outside the Great Hall rooms like usual, but once inside they split people into lines based on destination.
There’s a board showing which cities go in which line, and staff tell you where to stand. Priority and red cap board first, then they board by line starting with the farthest destinations. No more chaos on the platform itself.
Honestly, this felt way more organized and calmer. Less herding on the platform, less confusion about where to stand, and boarding moved faster than I’m used to at Chicago.
If this is the direction Amtrak is going, I’m all for it.
