Narrow Miss in Brooklyn Heights: Hotel Marquee Collapse Shuts Subway Entrance

Just missed a potential disaster yesterday in Brooklyn Heights. The marquee from the old St. George Hotel came crashing down right in front of the Clark Street subway station. Thankfully no one was hurt, but it’s hard not to think about how bad this could’ve been on a weekday morning. As a regular 2/3 line commuter, this is beyond unsettling.

Locals say the property’s been neglected for a while, and officials had just inspected the site two days prior. It’s wild that something like this still happened. The station’s now shut until they assess the second marquee. Makes me wonder how many other aging buildings in NYC are skating by on borrowed time. Anyone else caught up in this?
