I’m a pretty seasoned traveler, and I’ve never experienced harassment and scamming on this level anywhere else.
I honestly thought not looking like a stereotypical tourist might help. It didn’t. If you don’t like constant interaction, pressure, or confrontation, this is not the place for you. People follow you, pull you into shops, offer tea, then trap you in long sales pitches you never agreed to.
Even Uber was frustrating. Drivers kept asking for cash or Visa after accepting rides in the app, like payment hadn’t already been handled.
Seeing the pyramids was incredible, but getting there was a nonstop hassle. Endless offers, bad info, and people insisting you couldn’t enter unless you rode a camel or took a cart. I did my research and knew the tricks, but after a while the constant pressure just wears you down.
I even booked a guided tour that was cut short, then got guilted about the tip afterward.
I’m glad I went and saw what I wanted to see, but I can’t imagine coming back. This isn’t new, and it doesn’t feel like something that’s improving anytime soon.
