My best award redemption ever… but I wouldn’t do it again

Finally got to take my Qatar F flight after that whole rebooking mess, and the numbers were wild. I ended up ticketed in F and C revenue classes, so I credited it to AA as Plat Pro and pulled in over 55k AA miles and LP. For a 120k Avios redemption, that’s insane value. Basically paid 65k for US to SYD in F/J if you look at it that way.

But honestly… I wouldn’t chase Qatar F again.

It’s nice, sure, but it really doesn’t feel that different from their business class. Caviar and slightly fancier drinks, but a lot of the food and soft product feels the same. Better staffing and nicer bathrooms, but that’s about it.

The bigger issue is geography. DOH is just way out of the way from the US. My trip was around 30 hours of flying plus a 4 hour layover. Security checks twice during transit, can’t even keep water, and the gate areas are annoying.

Al Safwa is cool but not life changing. Breakfast menu is kind of boring, the place actually got crowded, and even the bathrooms had lines. And honestly, QR’s business lounges are already so good that the gap isn’t huge.

With how strong QR J is these days, F just doesn’t feel worth the extra cost. I slept through most of the flight anyway, and I would’ve had lounge access at SYD with status even if I flew J. Caviar in business, Garden lounge at DOH… it all kind of blurs together.

Feels like Qatar made business class so good that first isn’t really worth chasing.
