Chatted with Amex about a retention offer and figured I’d share the outcome. I’ve had the Platinum since 2005, put about $53K on it this year, and used most of the credits (Uber, Uber One, Oura, hotel, Resy, Lululemon, etc.).
Rep gave me the full rundown of how much value I’d gotten… then offered a single option: a “special redemption rate” to wipe out the $695 annual fee using 69,500 MR points at 1,000 pts = $10. No statement credit, no bonus points, no alternate offer.
I passed didn’t want to burn MR at that rate.
Funny enough, I used AI to prep my asks and it felt like AI was talking right back at me. Wouldn’t be shocked if Amex is automating more of these chats now.
