A coworker told me this story over lunch and I’m still kind of stunned.
She was at the public library using one of the free computers when an unsupervised kid, maybe 8 years old, comes up and tells her she needs to move so she can sit next to her friend. Not asks. Tells.
My coworker says no, she’s in the middle of something, and the kid loses it. Starts demanding she move, then escalates to calling her old and fat and saying she shouldn’t even be there.
It somehow gets worse. The two kids start yelling across the computers about how she’s mean and joking loudly about killing her and chopping her up. This is being said out loud in a public library to a 65 year old woman.
Eventually my coworker goes to the librarian. Only then does a woman appear from the other end of the library, grab the kids, and rush them out.
I don’t even know what to say. The entitlement alone was wild, but the threats? From kids that young? I can’t imagine what they’ll be like as teenagers.
