Most social cities for solo travelers who struggle to naturally meet people?

I’ve done a handful of solo trips so far and I genuinely love traveling alone, but I struggle with the social side of it.

I keep reading about solo travelers who naturally end up meeting people in hostel common rooms or joining groups and continuing to travel together, but that has never really happened for me. I often end up keeping to myself, even in social accommodation settings.

I’m currently planning my next trip and I’m trying to choose destinations that are known for being more social and easier for solo travelers to meet others.

I’m especially interested in:

Cities or countries where solo travelers naturally connect more easily

Places with active hostel or backpacker communities

Destinations where joining group activities or meeting people is common and low effort

Has anyone else struggled with this and then found certain cities where it became much easier?

I would also really appreciate hearing personal experiences of places where you actually made friends or traveled onward with people you met.
