Left the room for dinner for maybe an hour and a half, came back and the door was wide open. Our safe wouldn’t take the code we set, so we called security. Out of desperation I tried a few random codes and “11111” opened it… and all our cash was gone. About 300 USD and 2k+ pesos.
Management has been super unhelpful so far. First they tried to move us just a couple doors down and said anything better would cost extra. After pushing they finally moved us to another building, but now they’re saying the investigation could take up to 72 hours basically the rest of our trip. No credit, no compensation, nothing until it’s “done.”
They even offered an upgrade and spa stuff if we sign a liability waiver clearing them of any fault, which feels sketchy. Hard to know how much to push when you’re in another country and don’t really know what rights you have.
Anyone dealt with this before or know what the best move is?
