First off, I know this was ultimately my fault. If you leave something in a hotel room and check out, that’s on you.
That said,
I stay at Hilton properties 75 to 100 nights a year. Diamond status. Very familiar with the ecosystem. This is the first real issue I’ve run into.
This week I stayed one night at a Tru because my usual Hampton was sold out. I rushed out in the morning for a full day conference and left a pair of about $200 earbuds on the bathroom ledge. I know that’s where they were because I was using them while getting ready.
About five hours later I realized I didn’t have them. Immediately knew where I left them. I called the front desk:
• Lost and found checked, nothing
• Went back that evening in person, still nothing
• Find My app showed last location at the property
• Was told maybe they are in a manager’s drawer and to check back tomorrow
The room had already been turned over and reoccupied. They said they cannot disturb the current guest, which I understand.
So assuming they are not magically in this manager drawer tomorrow, how far would you reasonably push this?
On one hand, I do not want to get labeled as that guest and jeopardize upgrades or notes on my profile. On the other hand, it feels unlikely that $200 earbuds just disappeared.
I am not trying to get anyone fired. I would just like my property back.
Would you escalate to the GM? Let it go? File a formal claim? Curious how others have handled similar situations.
