This is partly my fault, but I still find the situation frustrating in hindsight.
I was traveling in Hawaii and waiting in the lounge for my flight with Delta Air Lines. I wasn’t closely tracking time because I usually rely on app notifications and gate announcements.
Normally, I receive multiple alerts like “boarding soon,” “boarding now,” and “your zone is boarding,” but in this case I didn’t get any of those, nor did I hear any gate announcements.
By the time I checked the time and headed to the gate, I still thought I had enough buffer. However, when I arrived, they were already closing the door and I was denied boarding.
I was rebooked onto another flight about 10 hours later, which was inconvenient. I did receive 3,000 miles as compensation, but I was still surprised that:
Boarding seemed to have started and ended earlier than expected
I didn’t receive the usual notifications
The gate closed while I was still within what I thought was a safe window
I know I should have monitored the time more closely, but I’m still curious if others have experienced something similar where boarding/departure timing felt off compared to usual notifications.
