I want to preface this by saying I should have read more clearly, but I booked this flight last minute and made a mistake.
I was flying from Greensboro to Houston with a connection at Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD). I arrived at the airport early and went to find my connecting gate, B14. There was no B14. I thought I might be in the wrong terminal, so I checked the United app, but the map didn’t show any route to my gate.
I went to a help desk and asked for assistance, showing my phone. The agent told me, “I’m sorry to have to tell you this, but you are at the wrong airport.”
At that point I was confused, but I confirmed I actually needed to be at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA), so I had to take an Uber in rush-hour traffic to get there. Luckily, I had a long layover, so it didn’t ultimately cause me to miss the connection, but the whole situation was stressful and time-consuming.
Like I said, I made a mistake, but I feel like it should be much clearer when there is an airport change. It was shown in normal formatting during booking and wasn’t highlighted on the confirmation page, which made it easy to miss.
