I recently received my annual 85K Free Night Award from Marriott International (issued around March 21).
However, I noticed that the certificate expires on January 31, 2027, which is significantly less than a full 12 months from the issuance date. This effectively gives closer to ~10 months of usable time rather than a full year.
This is particularly inconvenient for planning purposes, as it limits flexibility for trips that might otherwise be scheduled around annual events or holidays.
My concern is less about extension policies (which I understand are restricted) and more about the mismatch between the expected 12-month validity and the actual expiration window.
Has anyone else experienced this shortened validity period? Is this a standard practice with Free Night Awards, or is there variability in expiration timing depending on issuance date?
