I’ve held the Amex Marriott Bonvoy Business card for years and always justified the annual fee with the 35K free night, I regularly get $250–$300 value out of it. So hearing rumors that Amex might ditch it in favor of a 10% award discount and $160 in Marriott credits feels like a straight-up downgrade to me. Those credits aren’t bad, but they don’t excite me the way a free night does, especially when that night could be part of a great redemption in Europe or Asia.
Unless you’re chasing elite night credits or hitting status thresholds, I don’t see how this new version will appeal to anyone who doesn't spend a lot of nights at Marriott properties. I’ll probably cancel mine if this change goes live.
