Lufthansa has begun receiving its fleet of next-generation Boeing 787-9 aircraft equipped with the "Allegris" cabin design, marking a key milestone in its long-haul fleet modernization. The first of these aircraft has already arrived at Frankfurt, with additional deliveries expected through the end of the year—one roughly every two weeks—including transfers of five early 787-9s to Austrian Airlines for operation under the same premium cabin standard. This shift will allow Lufthansa to gradually retire older models like the Airbus A340-300 and A340-600. The long-awaited cabin upgrade enhances passenger comfort with redesigned seating across Business, Premium Economy, and Economy classes.
