Lufthansa continues to operate its classic Airbus A340 fleet throughout October 2025, with the aircraft scheduled on 851 flights during the month. The A340-300s will primarily serve long-haul routes such as Frankfurt–Boston, which remains one of the type’s busiest corridors, along with increased rotations to Montreal (YUL) to meet growing transatlantic demand.
However, the airline has confirmed that no A340-600 aircraft will be scheduled beyond October 27, 2025, marking the beginning of the end for one of Lufthansa’s most recognizable widebodies. The gradual phase-out aligns with Lufthansa’s fleet modernization plan, which focuses on more fuel-efficient twin-engine models like the Airbus A350 and Boeing 787 Dreamliner. Aviation enthusiasts have expressed nostalgia for the A340’s elegant four-engine design, which has served Lufthansa’s long-haul operations for over two decades.
