I flew from Seattle to Split with a connection in Munich and placed a bid of $320 to upgrade to premium economy on the long-haul segment. This was slightly above the minimum bid, but it wasn’t accepted.
Once onboard, the flight turned out to be pretty empty. I even had an entire row in economy to myself, which honestly felt more comfortable than premium economy. I also noticed several empty seats in premium economy.
That’s what confuses me. If there were clearly open seats, why reject the upgrade bid? It seems like accepting the extra $320 would be better than leaving those seats unused. Curious if anyone understands how Lufthansa decides these upgrades.
