Lufthansa is gearing up for a major U.S. network expansion by adding flights to secondary American cities as part of its long-term growth and profitability strategy. According to reports, the German flag carrier plans to strengthen its transatlantic presence beyond traditional hubs like New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles, by targeting mid-sized markets with growing business and leisure travel demand.

This expansion aims to connect travelers from regions such as the Southeast and Midwest U.S. directly to Europe, reducing the need for connecting flights through major airports. Potential new destinations include Raleigh–Durham (RDU) and other emerging U.S. cities showing strong economic growth and global connectivity potential.

Lufthansa’s move reflects a broader industry trend among major airlines seeking to tap into underserved regional markets. At the same time, the carrier is modernizing its fleet with new-generation aircraft like the Airbus A350 and Boeing 787 Dreamliner, while phasing out older models such as the A340. The airline also plans to roll out its cutting-edge Allegris cabin experience across long-haul routes, bringing a new level of luxury and personalization to passengers.

By expanding into these secondary cities, Lufthansa hopes to diversify its customer base, strengthen its North American footprint, and position itself as a leader in premium transatlantic travel.
