I recently received notification that my return flights from Newcastle to Frankfurt (connecting onward to Prague) in September have been cancelled.
Lufthansa has offered alternative flights, but these are from and to Manchester, which is around 150 miles away from my original departure and arrival airport. This creates a significant inconvenience, especially as I was specifically trying to avoid extra travel due to having young children (who are not traveling with us, but we still wanted to minimize disruption).
From what I understand, EU rules suggest I should be entitled to either re-routing from my original departure airport or a refund. I have looked into alternative options and noticed there are direct flights to Prague with other airlines, but these are more expensive and not as convenient.
Has anyone had success challenging Lufthansa in a situation like this and insisting on rerouting from the original airport rather than accepting a completely different one?
Would appreciate any advice or shared experiences.
