Lufthansa has 5 different versions of their new business class and still some of their old planes have the other confiration.
First impression: big upgrade. The cabin actually looks modern now—clean, minimal, kind of Scandinavian-feeling. Every seat has aisle access (thank god), and I got one of the solo window seats, which felt super private. There are a few different seat types (some are wider, some have more legroom, etc.) and you can choose your favorite when you book—but heads up, some cost extra.
Seat was fully lie-flat, no footwell coffin vibe like United. I’m 6’2” and I could stretch out. Slept about 5 hours, which never happens for me. They give you a real mattress pad and a decent blanket—nothing luxe like Emirates, but way better than before. Food was… fine. Like, Lufthansa-level fine. Decent fish dish, nice bread, not much personality. Wine list was better than expected though, and they had good espresso, which I always appreciate.
Wi-Fi actually worked the whole flight and was fast enough for email + Slack. The entertainment system is upgraded too—big 4K screen, and finally a UI that doesn’t feel like Windows 95. Still not the best selection, but enough for an overnight.
Service in business class has always been fast to get meals served but otherwise spartan. efficient is the correct way to think of it but verges on a bit cold.
Verdict: I’d fly it again. Way better than their old business class. If you can grab one of the “throne” or extra space seats, totally worth it. Still not quite Qatar or ANA level, but Allegris puts Lufthansa back in the conversation for best transatlantic biz class.
I'd say Lufthansa always had my favorite first class experience, but i haven't tried the Allegris version yet.
