I’m planning a 10-day solo trip to the US in early July. I previously lived in the US for a year and still visit regularly, so I’m familiar with traveling there, but I’m undecided on where to go this time.
Right now I’m choosing between returning to New York City, which I absolutely love, or trying Miami, which I haven’t visited yet.
NYC is easily a 10/10 for me and my favorite city overall. Miami looks beautiful in photos, but I have some concerns. I’m 30 and not interested in nightlife or clubbing, so I’m worried I might run out of things to do after a few days if that scene dominates the experience.
To give an idea of my preferences:
NYC: 10/10, love the energy and intensity
Nashville: 9/10
Cape Cod / Santa Barbara: 8/10, relaxing and scenic
Boston: 7/10, felt somewhat similar to London
Chicago: 6/10, nice but I ran out of activities quickly
LA: 5/10, beautiful but the atmosphere didn’t feel authentic to me
One important factor is that I won’t have a car for this trip, so I need a place that is walkable or has reliable public transportation.
Based on this, would Miami be a good fit for me, or does it have a similar feel to Los Angeles? Also, are there other cities I should consider that match my preferences?
I’m tempted to return to NYC since I know I enjoy it, but I also want to try somewhere new.
