Louisiana’s got some real gems hiding off the usual trail

We just got back from a road trip through Louisiana, and I wish someone had told me earlier how charming some of these lesser-known towns are. We hit Abita Springs on a whim and ended up spending half a day at the Abita Mystery House it’s kitschy in the best way. Then we rolled into Grand Coteau, which has this almost surreal calm to it and some gorgeous old buildings. Mamou was loud, wild, and full of life exactly the kind of energy you want for a Cajun Mardi Gras.

Curious if anyone else has done this kind of loop or if there's another town in the state that's worth pulling off the highway for?
