Wanted to share a small Japan win.
I lost my Apple Watch at Haneda over Christmas. Put it back on after security but didn’t secure it properly and it must’ve slipped off without me noticing. We still had about an hour before boarding so my husband and I retraced our steps, emptied bags, pockets, everything. The Find My app kept showing it in the exact spot I was standing, but it definitely wasn’t on me.
Language barrier made asking about lost and found pretty tough, and eventually we had to board and leave it behind.
For the next couple days I kept checking Find My and noticed it moved, but was still inside the airport. My husband convinced me to call. Took some effort because of the language barrier, but eventually I got confirmation that someone had found it and turned it in.
They shipped it to me for ¥1,450, which is under $10. I live in Okinawa, so it was a domestic shipment, but still incredibly reasonable.
Moral of the story: if you lose something at an airport in Japan, call lost and found even if you’ve already left. People really do turn things in.
