I’m planning a trip to Mexico in about 3–4 weeks and I’m considering returning to the Barcelo Maya Complex, where I stayed previously. However, I’ve been hearing recent reports that match the poor beach conditions I experienced back in 2018.
My main concern is sargassum. I understand it is a widespread issue in the region, but I’ve noticed that some resorts put significantly more effort into cleaning it daily, while others seem less proactive. For example, at Catalonia Playa Maroma last year, despite heavy sargassum, staff were actively cleaning the beach throughout the day, which made a big difference.
Recent photos and reviews of Barcelo Maya suggest the situation may still be quite bad.
I’m now looking for recommendations for an all-inclusive resort in Mexico with better beach maintenance, ideally with a total budget under $1,500 CAD including airfare, accommodation, and transfers.
