I want to share a recent experience for travelers arriving at Rome Fiumicino Airport. After landing, we planned to take a taxi into the city since we had multiple bags and didn’t want to deal with the train, especially with possible service disruptions.
Immigration using the new entry system took about two hours. After that, we joined the official taxi queue, but the line was extremely long and moved very slowly. After waiting around 30 minutes, we were still far from the front.
We eventually decided to leave the taxi line and instead booked an Uber-style taxi, which arrived within a few minutes and was much faster.
By the time we passed the pickup area again, the official taxi queue had grown even longer.
Based on this experience, I would recommend considering alternatives in advance such as the train, pre-booked private transfers, or app-based taxis when arriving at FCO, especially during busy periods.
