I wanted to share my recent experience departing from Lisbon Airport on an international flight with United Airlines. Overall, the process was smooth and efficient.
Checked baggage took around 10 minutes. At check-in, I was asked a few questions about my visit to Portugal and my travel plans. I used a self-tagging kiosk without any wait, then proceeded to the Premiere line for bag drop, where I was again asked some basic questions about my destination and luggage contents. The wait there was about 8 minutes. Staff advised heading directly to the gate even though I arrived early.
Security was the longest step, taking about 20 minutes, but it moved steadily. The process was straightforward, with only liquids needing to be removed from my bag. I also followed advice from airport staff and avoided stopping at shops or cafes between stages.
Passport control took around 6 minutes. Despite expecting a long delay, it was quick and efficient. With an electronic passport, I used the automated gates, which had a much shorter line compared to the standard queue, which appeared to be over an hour long.
Arriving about 3 hours before departure felt appropriate for an international flight with Premiere access and an electronic passport. After clearing all checkpoints, I had time to relax before boarding. I’m sharing this in case it helps others planning a similar trip. Safe travels to everyone.
