While vacationing in Hawaii, I witnessed firsthand how unpredictable nature can turn a dream cruise into a survival story. When an 8.8 earthquake off Russia triggered tsunami alerts, cruise ships were ordered to sea for safety. Unfortunately, not everyone made it back on board. Passengers from Norwegian's Pride of America, including a mom and daughter on a volcano park excursion, returned to the dock just in time to see the ship sail away. They ended up sleeping in a high school gym overnight!
I understand safety protocols, but wow, imagine seeing your cruise leave without you. I’d love to hear from others: have you ever experienced a travel emergency like this? What’s the protocol here, should cruise lines delay departure if passengers are en route? Curious how others would handle a situation like this.
