Honestly, that stretch from Rapid City down to Joplin was one of my least favorite drives. I took the central Nebraska route since it was the shortest, but man, it was brutal. Just miles and miles of flat fields, the same view on repeat, and barely anything interesting to break it up. At first I figured it would be easy cruising, no mountains or tough roads but after a few hours it just felt endless.
By the time I hit Grand Island and started pushing toward Kansas and Missouri, I was completely over it. Stopping for gas or snacks was literally the highlight of the trip, just to shake off the monotony. Compared to other drives I’ve done, like through the Black Hills or down I-70 in Colorado, this one was just plain forgettable. Definitely not a route I’d want to repeat anytime soon.
