A day trip to Lake Garda from Verona in April 2026 highlights challenges using public transport around the region.
The journey started from Peschiera del Garda, where bus schedules from mapping apps indicated a direct route on the LN026 bus toward Sirmione. However, the bus timetable was inaccurate, and passengers were unexpectedly forced off at Piazza Campiello. After waiting around 30 minutes, a shuttle bus was taken instead.
On the return journey, the shuttle was used to reach a stop for a bus back to Verona. After a long wait of about 40 minutes, a crowded bus finally arrived but broke down shortly after departure. With limited remaining transport options and increasing crowding at the stop, a taxi was taken to Desenzano station for €40 (shared with others) to continue the trip by train back to Verona.
The experience highlights that while visiting Sirmione and Lake Garda by public transport is possible, it often involves delays, overcrowding, and multiple transfers. The overall impression is that exploring the area is more efficient with a private vehicle due to limited reliability and frequency of buses.
