If you’re anywhere near Clearlake, heads up the Lake Fire is burning fast. I was in the area this afternoon when the sky started changing color, and by the time I checked, Cal Fire had already responded. The blaze broke out near Eastlake Drive and Oak Street and has scorched about 340 acres. It’s only 5% contained so far and has damaged at least two buildings.
Evacuation orders have been scaled back to warnings, but the zone stretches from Sulphur Bank Road to Highway 53, and from Olympic Drive up to Highway 20. Air units were flying overhead, and the smoke was no joke. If you're nearby, stay alert and keep your go-bag handy. Anyone else been through a fire evacuation before? What essentials did you pack first?
