Korean Air Embarks on an Ambitious and Visionary UAM and Aviation Safety R&D Centre Project in Bucheon to Transform Global Air Travel by 2030

Korean Air is making a bold move into the future of aviation with a massive investment of KRW 1.2 trillion (~$844 million) to build a state-of-the-art Urban Air Mobility (UAM) and Aviation Safety R&D Centre in Bucheon, South Korea 🛫🇰🇷. Spanning over 65,800 square meters—about the size of ten football fields—the facility will house more than 1,000 experts focusing on next-gen aerial technologies, pilot training, and safety innovation.

The center will feature three main components: a UAV Research Centre developing AI-driven drone tech 🤖, Asia’s largest Flight Training Centre with 30 simulators training up to 21,600 pilots annually 🎮✈️, and a Safety Experience Centre offering immersive safety training for staff and educational programs for the local community 🛡️📚. Construction is set to begin in 2027, with operations commencing in May 2030.
