KLM rejecting hotel and food reimbursement after January cancellations

Had flights cancelled in early January and had to pay out of pocket for hotel and food. Just got an email from KLM saying they won’t reimburse anything because it was weather related.


What’s confusing is that at the time of the cancellations, everything I saw said they were supposed to cover reasonable extra costs like hotels and meals.


Has anyone actually managed to get reimbursed for this with KLM? Any tips on how to push back, or am I just out of luck here?
