Kicked out of a prepaid extra legroom seat on SQ with no warning

Booked four seats to Tokyo and paid 72 dollars for one extra legroom spot months ago. Never changed the booking. Did online check in in a rush and didn’t notice anything was off. Only when I boarded did I realize someone else was in the seat I paid for. My boarding pass had me in a middle seat two rows back.

Crew called ground staff but they just told me to file a complaint. I emailed and chatted SIA before the plane even took off and two weeks later all I’ve gotten are generic “we’re investigating” replies.

Finally got through on the hotline. Turns out if your booking has a child in it and the prepaid seat is in an emergency row, SQ will automatically move you without notice, even if the adult was the one assigned to the emergency row seat. They say they refunded me but I haven’t seen anything yet. Crew and ground staff didn’t even know this policy existed.

If you’ve got kids on the booking, apparently don’t bother paying for an emergency row seat.
