I currently have both the Delta Amex Reserve and Platinum. Haven’t hit the one year mark yet so I have not received the companion certificates.
When renewal comes around it will be about $1000 total in annual fees. On paper, a first class companion cert plus an economy one sounds like it could easily cover that. But I am trying to think about it realistically.
The side perks like free checked bag, 15 percent off SkyMiles redemptions, and Sky Club access are nice, but not $1000 nice for me. I also put most of my spend on other cards, so I am not optimizing these beyond the base benefits.
For those who keep both, are the companion certs alone enough to justify it? Or do you find they are harder to use in practice than they look on paper?
