Just read that Joby Aviation is working with L3Harris to develop a hybrid VTOL aircraft for military use, blending Joby's electric air taxi tech with L3Harris’ defense systems. It’ll support both crewed and autonomous operations and might even fly missions as early as 2026. They're starting flight testing this fall, which feels like a huge step forward for advanced air mobility.
While it's aimed at defense, I can’t help but think this could accelerate VTOL tech for civilian travel too. Joby’s past work with the Air Force and its 500-mile hydrogen-electric air taxi demo last year make me hopeful that we’re closer to long-range, sustainable air taxis. Anyone else following this tech? Think we’ll see commercial use spin-offs sooner than expected?
