JFK’s massive Terminal 1 overhaul is well underway, and it’s shaping up to be a game-changer for international travelers. Scheduled to open mid-2026, this $9.5 billion project will eventually house 23 gates 22 wide-body and feature tons of natural light, centralized customs/security, and a whopping 300,000+ square feet of dining and retail space.
I’m especially intrigued by the cash-and-carry duty-free a rare perk in U.S. airports!
It’ll serve major carriers like Turkish, Etihad, and Air China, and ties into JFK’s broader $19B redevelopment. I fly through JFK a few times a year, and this kind of upgrade is long overdue.
Curious what you all think, will Terminal 1 finally make JFK less chaotic and more traveler-friendly?
