JetBlue removed my backpack before takeoff and now my car has been stuck at the airport for days

Flew JFK to BUF and put my backpack in the overhead bin since my purse counted as my personal item. Fell asleep before takeoff. At some point a flight attendant removed my bag, assumed it belonged to a passenger from the previous flight, and took it off the plane without ever waking me or confirming it was unclaimed.

That backpack had my car keys. No spare.

Landed in Buffalo and the bag was gone. Other passengers told me they saw it get pulled. JetBlue initially said the bag was found at JFK, then days later emailed saying it actually wasn’t. Since then it’s been nonstop calls, lost and found, baggage offices, and basically zero real answers.

Meanwhile my car sat in short term parking for days racking up fees. I’ve now had to tow it to a dealership and order new key fobs just to get access again. JetBlue offered a $50 travel credit which I obviously declined.

I’ll own my mistakes. I shouldn’t have left my keys in the backpack and I shouldn’t have fallen asleep. But removing a passenger’s bag from the aircraft without confirming ownership feels insane.

If anyone has dealt with something like this or knows how to get JetBlue to actually take responsibility, I’m all ears.
